Days 48 & 49 - Party Hard and Recover

I am so sorry for not posting yesterday. It's not that I didn't do anything, but everything that I did happened late at night, so by the time I got back home and had something to write about, all I wanted to do was sleep. And so... on with what happened yesterday!

Before about 5 pm, nothing really happened, I just slept and did a lot of catching up on emails or trying to start homework (keyword: trying). At about 1, I got a text from some friends that they're ere going to a party at 7 and possibly going to Köln after that. I figured, well, I will never, EVER be around in the birthplace of Karneval while Karneval is going on ever again, so I might as well have some fun. Until then, I talked with my host mom about my plans to go to Köln on Monday for the huge parade (wish me luck!) and she said that was a bit too much for her, so she wouldn't be going. Think about that for a minute. A native Bonnian who is super into Karneval not going to Köln for the parade because there's too many people. And it's not just her, but all of our host parents are staying as far away from Köln as they can on that day. I'm sure it'll be quite the experience.

Anyway, I left in my indoor outfit because I thought we would be inside at a party, but brought my jacket to wear because it was still cold and wifi outside, especially with the sheer sleeves of my costume. I met up with my friends and their host sister who was going to show us to the party and we made our way to the grocery store to get some supplies. We took a bus and waited for our stop. And waited. And waited. It took about 30 minutes to get to where we were going, much longer than we thought it would be be cause we were under the impression that it was rather close to Bonn. When we got to the party, it turns out that there were only 16-17 year old kids there. Normally that's fine, but in a club setting with only 3 of us being close to my age, it was a bit awkward and nothing like we were expecting. So we left. We took the train all the way back to Bonn and met up with some other friends so we could go to Köln to go to a better party there.

Look at us in our super cute costumes
And...yeah. This was the high school party place.

When we walked out of the station, there were so many people drinking, dancing, playing music. It was a ginormous party out in the middle of the street. We walked around and got some food before catching a tram to where the party was. Well, where we thought the party was. In reality, we walked around for a while looking for the party, but since we were in an unfamiliar area of an unfamiliar city, we soon turned around and went back to the station. When we got there, we missed the train back to Bonn (we saw it pull away) and caught the tram which was much longer but left about an hour before the next train. On the tram we saw a lot of Germans that decided to talk to us, but for the most part or was a quiet ride all the way back to Bonn. When the tram pulled in, it was about an hour later and I just caught the night bus back to my home before falling asleep.

This was just a fraction of the people there
All of us hanging trying to find the party
It's not a good picture, but there were people pretending to be luggage on the train

As for today, I spent most of it sleeping and bonding with my family over games like taboo (wherein I only observed) and Skip-Bo. This is my one do nothing day of the weekend. Tomorrow is a parade in Bad Godesburg that my host sister is dancing in, and on Monday I'm going all the way to Köln for the big Rosemontag parade. Ready or not Karneval, here I come!

Bis Bald!
