I met Kelsey at the tram station and ride into Bonn before waiting for the three others who would be joining us shortly. About 15 min and a lot of unanswered calls later, we left to go try and find where the parade was going to take place. We didn't have to walk far as before the first major fork in the road, there was a huge mass of people just beginning to line up in two separate lines. We followed the human road and stopped in front of the Münster just in time for a large band and what looked like the court of Karneval made their way through the numerous amounts of people. It was pretty exciting, but that was just the warm up. The actual parade didn't start until a full 30 min later. Until then, we kind of joined the tail end of the procession and walked with the band. It was about this point that someone called to wonder where we were and we made our way back to the main road to meet him. It wasn't long after that when the last two people we were waiting for called us to figure out where we were and we met up with them, making our group complete.
The Karneval "court"
We found a pretty nice spot to watch the parade from and waited for the first floats to roll past. It was just like all the other parades I've been to with a lot of candy and a lot of screaming. At first, we didn't get a lot of candy because there was this old Asian lady that fought tooth and nail for every scrap of sweetness that came near her, but as we slowly drifted away from her, we slowly got more and more as bigger floats came by. We even got a candy bar at one point that the five of us shared. Eventually we all became tired, hungry, and cold, so we looked for the one wurst stand that was open on Karneval. When we finished our little snack, we were no longer hungry, but still tired and cold, so we made our way to AIB that was only a little ways down the road since it was close and it was a place where we could sit.

Guys, they brought in a camel. How cool is that!
I like the castle/church combo going on here
It was actually a really nice day out today, I don't know why they needed umbrellas
It turns out that AIB was open today, though only run by one person and one of our peers was already there. We sat, talked, and ate candy for about a half hour. Then, more people joined us. They had just come from a double parade and were looking forward to resting and relaxing. Mainly the rest of my time in Bonn for the day consisted of talking to these people and learning about some of the cool things that happened in Munich over the weekend. Kelsey and I left a little bit after that, completely drained from the weekend. On the bright side, we finally hashed out the details of our plans tomorrow, so that's good.
When we got to our tram stop, I followed Kelsey home to get back the cowboy boots I had lent her for her costume, and ended up drinking tea and kölsch while talking with her his parents. They seem like pretty cool people, and even offered to drive us to the airport next Saturday when we leave for Milan. When I left, the gave me a ride home since it wasn't too far by car, and I went up to spend some time with my own host family. We had a good time talking before dinner, and soon it was time for bed.
Tomorrow my class was cancelled, so technically I have the whole day free. In reality, I'm going in to work on my project and the homework due both on Wednesday and Friday. However, there's a bright side to all of this. One of us bought the movie Frozen and after our study day, we're going to have a movie night with Frozen and maybe the sound of music, so I have that to look forward to.
Till next time!
Erin Z.
