Day 61 (Cruise day 5) - At Sea

Ahhh. There's nothing quite like waking up without the help if any alarms. If course, the fact that because of my early schedule lately, I still woke up before 10, giving me more than enough time to get to any boat activities made waking up all the sweeter. Everyone else in my cabin was still sleeping, so I quietly got dressed and ready for the day before leaving. I went and painted a plate that I'm going to give to my host family and spent some time just sitting and relaxing with my book all by myself. After a while, I went back to my cabin to drop off my newly decorated plate and discovered that the rest if my roommates were awake. I waited for them for a bit before we all went off to lunch at the buffet. As far as lunches go, it was very good and had a whole lot of seafood.

After that, Kelsey and I went to watch an ice sculptor create an ice statue. At first we were a little dissatisfied because we were a little far away and couldn't see what the guy was doing. It just looked like a lot of ice flying around everywhere. However, when the finished piece was shown to us, we were amazed that something so simple as a block of ice could be turned into an intricate sculpture of a horse in under 15 min. What made it more impressive was the fact that the sculptor used chisels and wildly chipped away at the ice instead of carefully placing each cut. Once the demonstration was done, I went and wrote part of the log and listened to music up on deck where I could smell the sea water and feel the wind in my hair. One thing about me is that one of the things hat can make me happy is to be placed near water. Needless to say that being I'm the ocean on a boat makes me very happy, especially when I'm out in the open and can see the sea.

He made this out of 3 chisels and a lot of hacking away at the ice

I spent about an hour in happiness before heading back to my cabin to grab Kelsey so we could go to the arts and crafts of making jewelry that was going on. We both made necklace out of the string and beads that were set before us. Once our necklaces were complete, we went back to the room to change into our best clothes. Unfortunately, I didn't bring a dress on this trip, so instead of wearing "elegant/gala" like the dress code said, I was just wearing formal clothes. Both of us did dress up though, and we met up with the other cabin and took a lot of pictures of us in our nice outfits.

Don't we look pretty?

Dinner tonight was the captains gala dinner, which was why we had so many people dressed up. It was a pretty nice affair and our menus were given to us rolled up and tied by a blue ribbon. After dinner, we ran into Johanna and her family and we stole her away to go to the piano bar. While we were there, a few if us got some drinks and I had my first piña colada, so that was pretty cool. After that, we watched some couples dance which made me really want to learn how to do formal dances like the tango or waltz. Before we parted ways with Johanna, we decided when we would meet the next day for our day in Barcelona. Then we went up to our room and spent most of the rest of our time just relaxing. The only thing that broke up the quiet was when the other cabin visited us and we told them when we were meeting up the next morning. Tomorrow is a rather early day because we're meeting up at 8:45 before catching up with the people who have spent the week in Barcelona.
