So remember when I ha a lot of trouble sleeping through the sun in the morning? Apparently my body got used to it because I actually slept late today. Guess I need to break out the alarm clock again. Luckily it wasn't too bad and only put me back 15 minutes. I also discovered that even if I hurry, my commute is still about 45 minutes due to the train blocking my path, the long walk to the tram stop, and the tram ride to town preceding my walk to school. When I got to class, I was only a little bit late and quickly took my place to learn about the last little but of the renal system. Wow, it seems like forever since we last had a class that we learned things in instead of working on the prosthetic project. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I really missed learning physiology
That was the last class of the day. I know, it was strange for me too! It's alright though because we had a lot of cross-referencing for classes to do if we wanted to know what our schedule would be like next year. I also found out that I had been accepted into the University of Texas at Austin, which meant that I could actually look at the schedule. What I found wasn't that good. Yes, they had my class, but it was every day of the week for an hour and a half for the entire summer...2.5 months. Comparing that with ATM who had a half summer semester as well as the cost of each of the summer classes, the fact that I would have to transfer credit through the Austin campus, and I had a lot to think about. Even considering the fact that I had a job in Austin, I was starting I think that it would be better to stay at ATM.
But enough of that, because there was something else due today: the DHF and the peer evals...which I still need to do. Oops. Good thing it's due at midnight! My teacher has been assigning sections for us to get done, but not grading them right away. This is because the DHF isn't something you can BS in a few hours. It takes work, research, and a lot of time to get it done, even if you're doing the bare minimum to get it done. This will also allow us to go back and improve anything previously "submitted" if we come up with a better way to word or come across new info. We worked on that one for about 2 hours before we determined that we were done, combining our work from yesterday and today into the original document (I love Google docs) that we would be submitting to our teacher. Soon after that, I decided to leave to hang out with my family.
When I got to my home, I chilled with my host sisters before my host mom came in and told me that dinner was ready. Just after I finished, my parents called so we could talk over what my options for the summer were. The reason why it couldn't really wait is because if I want to sign up for summer classes, the chance to do it starts tomorrow and I don't want to be pushed out of a class because there was no space. On the bright side, my mom and dad were able to meet my host family for the first time because normally they're asleep when I talk to my family back home. That 7 hour time difference really makes things hard. We talked through some things and my parents mostly listened while I worked through the pros and cons, slowly coming to a conclusion. By the time we hung up, I decided to take my class at ATM instead of in Austin. It's a bummer because I won't be able to see them and hopefully my boss is OK with me working only weekends for a month, but I'll still have before and after to hang out with them or work. Plus, as I said before, if I don't take this class I'll be set back an entire year because of the pre-requsite system that's set up.
Tomorrow is an early day starting off with Physiology and followed with a hard case of signals, but then we're done. It's also the day of registration, so there will probably a lot of us freaking out over if we get our classes or not. Maybe not as we're all honors kids and get early registration. Anyway, this weekend looks promising with the Altstadt festival for the cherry blossoms happening. I'm also hoping to go to the botanical gardens before the blooms fade. It's the perfect time for it with all the warm weather and light showers we've had here, so I'm sure it'll be beautiful. Sorry, no pictures today, or most likely even tomorrow...or the next day now that I think about it.
Till next time,
Erin Z
